“One People, One Earth” conference will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, 1-5 p.m. at Lucy Cuddy Hall on the University of Alaska, Anchorage campus.

Father Thomas Weise from the Diocese of Juneau will be one of the panelists.

In a notice posted on the Anchorage Archdiocese Web site, area Catholics have been invited to “consider attending as we heed the call of Pope Benedict to protect our human family and care for our earth.”

The invitation adds that in 2010 Pope Benedict XVI stated that “in order to protect nature, it is not enough to intervene with economic incentives or deterrents; not even an apposite education is sufficient. These are important steps, but the decisive issue is the overall moral tenor of society.”

The conference will include a variety of Alaska interfaith leaders, Alaska Native Elders and climate scientists for an interactive conversation aimed to “inspire meaningful action on climate change through greater respect for the earth and one another.”
